Mr Henry Tan Hong Khoen - Chef de Mission for Singapore at 4th ASEAN Para Games
Mr Henry Tan has tirelessly served the disabled sports arena since 1975. Although holding office in the Executive Committee of the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC), Mr Tan has nevertheless demonstrated a profound passion to drive the development of disability sports at every level. He has been involved from coaching of athletes and officiating at national disabled sports competitions to sharing his expertise with international disabled sports organizations.
Amidst his busy work at the Ministry of Education’s Co-Curricular Activities Branch, Mr Tan continues to volunteer as the Vice-President of SDSC till date. In his official capacity, he has made immense headway for the integration of disabled and able-bodied sports.
In 2000 and 2004, Mr Tan took on the role of Chef-De-Mission to the Paralympic contingents for Sydney and Athens Paralympic Games respectively. Through his leadership, Azman Bin Yusoff came in seventh in the 100m sprint, and Zaimoonisah Bte Mohamed Yussoff completed a respectable 7th and 8th place finish in the 1km and 3km race in Sydney 2000. In Athens 2004, Theresa Goh Rui Si came in 5th for her 100m Breaststroke, barely missing the first Olympic gold medal for Singapore.
Bearing Singapore’s goal for an unprecedented medal victory, Mr Tan will continue to lead a 70-strong contingent to the 4th ASEAN Para Games in 2008.
“Let's give our 100 percent commitment for Singapore.”
